Day 26 - Food Storage Containers
Are you among the many people who can’t ever find a lid to their food containers?
Or are you afraid of a food container avalanche every time you open your cabinets?
If either of those sound familiar - this quick and easy task is for you!
Take a before picture!
PURGE
Get rid of:
The containers without matching lids
The lids without matching containers
The containers with gross stains
The lids or containers that are warped
The lids or containers you have too many duplicates of!
If you get rid of so many that you need to replace the whole set, make sure you get containers that are stackable. I recommend choosing either all square or all round.
Trash, Recycle, Donate
If you choose to donate containers, make sure they have a matching lid that seals properly. Don’t donate trash!
Clean
Wash any dishes that need to be cleaned.
Wipe out the cabinets or drawers that hold your food storage containers.
Put it all back neatly
Stack containers of the same shape & size.
Stack lids of the same shape & size.
If you have random sizes that don’t fit where you need to store them, I suggest getting rid of them!
The key to being able to keep this area tidy is having containers of the same shape that will stack easily.
You may need to invest in shelf risers or under-shelf hanging baskets to help you keep the lids & containers tidy.
Make sure everything has a home. Don’t just throw it in a cabinet or drawer.
Maintain
Put the containers & lids back where they go every time you do the dishes.
There is no point in organizing them today if you aren’t going to do this every time.
If you choose to save containers from store bought food items (butter, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) don’t keep too many. Only keep what you need.
Don’t forget to take before & after pictures. Hold on to them for the giveaway I’m doing in a few days!
