Tip Tuesday - One In=One Out

Following this simple rule will help you keep clutter under control!

⚠️ IMPORTANT

This is most effective if you start practicing it AFTER you have decluttered & purged an area. Otherwise, you are still maintaining the same level of clutter. So take some time, do a good purge & start practicing One In = One Out!

👕 You can implement this practice with your shoes, clothes, hats, kids toys, kitchen appliances, really anything that is taking up too much space!

😬  Transparency Moment:

I had to start practicing this with earrings…I may have a problem but at least they are neatly organized! Maybe I’ll share jewelry organization in a few weeks for accountability.

💡It’s Simple…

When a new pair of shoes comes into your closet an old pair goes out. New toy comes in, one goes out. New dress in, old dress out. Make sure the things you’re exchanging are alike and take up a similar amount of space. If you need to at first, you can exchange items from broader categories until you get things more balanced. Just don’t get rid of a pair of socks every time you bring home a new pair of jeans or a Barbie doll shoe in exchange for a toy kitchen set. Not the same. 😏

⏰ I suggest doing this as soon as the new thing comes into your home. If not, you may “forget” the ONE OUT portion of the rule a few too many times and end up right back where you started.

😇 If you don’t like the way this rule makes you feel… flip it around. One Out = One In. If you motivate yourself to regularly purge you can add new things to your closet or toy bin whatever the case may be. The concept is the same this just makes it feel more like a reward than a punishment.

🛑 Remember, purge first.
