Tip Tuesday - Packing For Travel

I know some people prefer to just throw things in a bag last minute before travel! BUT these tips are helpful every time you travel, no matter your packing personality type.

Organized packing can help you save money & sanity!

Some of these tips are common sense. The key is implementing them all together! That’s when you notice a difference in efficiency. 

Before you pack:

🧳  Check the weather forecast

🧳  Research lodging amenities and costs (irons, pool, laundry services, restrictions, disinfecting procedures!)

🧳 Make a List:

- Handwrite or use an app (notes, asana, to-do, etc.)

When you pack:

- Think in categories: Make a list of all of the toiletries you know you need, the clothes from your dresser, items for your backpack/purse, meds, electronics, shoes, etc.

🧳 Contain items within your suitcase. This allows you to make the most use of the space AND it keeps things from scattering while you travel. Use packing cubes, water resistant toiletry bags, or ziploc bags.

🧳 Packing for children: Pack a full outfit in a gallon size ziploc bag and write the day of the week on the outside. You can include other reminders for them on the outside of the bag too!

🧳 Packing shoes - clean them up before throwing them in your bag. To keep them from getting other items in your bag dirty wrap them in a plastic grocery sack, plastic wrap, shower cap, etc.

🧳 Travel purse or backpack: Contain items within this bag too! Use small zippered bags within your travel bag to keep things together. Again, it saves you space, keeps things from scattering, & it helps you find what you need quickly.

Moving Forward:

- REUSE the list you created! Save it as “Beach trip 2020” or “Work Conference August 2020”

- Instead of starting from scratch each time, you can get multiple uses out of the hard work you did to create a thorough list the first time! Just duplicate it and make adjustments based on the destination, purpose, weather, etc.
