Tip Tuesday - Vehicle organization

πŸš—πŸ—‘ We spend a lot of time in our vehicles and because of that they often become mobile trash cans & storage units.

Tips for decluttering, organizing, & maintaining a tidy vehicle:

1️⃣ DECLUTTER.

  • Take everything out. Take it inside and go through it all!

  • Throw away trash, put things back where they belong, determine what you plan to put back in your vehicle.

2️⃣ CLEAN.

  • While everything is out, throughly clean your vehicle! Wipe down surfaces, vacuum carpets, & consoles, etc.

3️⃣ CONTAIN.

  • Go through the items you’ve determined need to stay in your vehicle and group like items together.

  • Contain the like items in zippered bags, plastic containers, drawer dividers, whatever fits well in your console & glove box.

  • If you need to keep a lot in your car I recommend adding a utility tote to the trunk. For best use of the space, contain the items within the tote too!

4️⃣ MAINTAIN.

  • Come up with a plan for getting trash out of your vehicle and STICK TO IT. Add a small trash can/bag or make it a habit when you come home every day to take the trash inside. It’s not going to happen on it’s own, but if you develop the habit your vehicle will stay tidy!

  • If you keep items in your car for children, designate a container for their items too. Make cleaning up part of the process before getting out of the car. You know your kids & you know how long it takes them to clean up! So, if you don’t want to be sitting in the garage waiting on them to put everything away start a timer when you are 5 minutes away from your destination and make it game. See if they can get everything back where it goes before the timer goes off!

  • Tidy while you wait. We all spend time waiting in the car whether it’s in a drive through, school pick-up, while gas is pumping, grocery pick-up, etc. Use that time to put things back where they belong.
