Tip Tuesday - Baking Items & Spices

Holiday baking season is upon us! Now is the perfect time to make sure you’ve got everything you need to bake your traditional favorites or try your hand at something new! Having your baking items organized will make the baking experience less stressful!

It makes for easier clean up too! 😉

This task can save you time & money if you do it well! It can save you time wasted on extra trips to the grocery store and you can save money by not buying duplicates of something you already have buried deep in your pantry!

Clear off a large, flat surface to work on!

You aren’t tackling the entire kitchen or pantry today…this is just one small portion. It’s more tedious than the other typical kitchen categories. That is why it gets a #TipTuesday of its own!

  1. Gather all of your baking supplies & spices in one area with good lighting!

  2. DECLUTTER:

    • Check expiration dates

    • Throw away things that are the wrong consistency!

    • Donate unopened fresh items that you aren’t ever going to use.

  3. CLEAN:

    • Use a hand held vacuum to clean out the pantry or cabinet you’ve emptied.

    • Take advantage of it being empty and clean it out before you put everything back.

    • If any of your spices of food containers need to be cleaned, now is a great time for that too.

  4. Group like things!

    • Sort your spices however you prefer. Some people prefer to sort by use some sort alphabetically or by size.

    • It’s up to you, just come up with a maintainable system for everyone in your home.

  5. Decant, only if you’re determined to stay on top of it!

    1. It’s a fancy way to say, “Pour dry goods into canisters.”

    2. You can cut the expiration date and nutrition label off the original container and tape it onto the bottom or back side of the canister!

    3. Add a label to really take it up a notch! (Send me an e-mail if you’d like to order custom vinyl labels! You can choose your font & vinyl color!) You can see some examples HERE.

  6. Put things back in your pantry + cabinets.

  7. If you need help determining the best way to organize things when you put them back in, schedule an organizing session with Shepard Organizing Solutions today!!
